Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation is proud to support outstanding educators in the quest for excellence in our classrooms.
Through Teacher/Classroom Grants, the Foundation is encouraging educators to devise innovative and exciting educational programs for their students that enhance the learning environment and inspire students to achieve greater success.
Teachers, principals, school administrators, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff can apply for grants (using the link below) that benefit individual classrooms, or their entire school community.
Grants range from $200 – $4,999 and fall under many categories such as Agriculture/Horticulture, the Arts, Literacy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Student-centered technology and Educational Field Trips. In the fall of 2025, 11 Innovative Grants were awarded totaling $28,072.33. The deadline to apply is Oct. 2, 2026

Why does Hispanic Heritage Month start halfway through September?
President Johnson first signed the National Hispanic Heritage Week bill into law in 1968, writing that he wished “to pay special tribute to the Hispanic tradition,” with the knowledge that “our five Central American neighbors celebrate their Independence Day on the fifteenth of September and the Republic of Mexico on the sixteenth.” Those five countries include Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, which all gained their independence from Spain in 1821.

Join us tonight, September 15, for the Board of Education meeting as we welcome our Student Advisor, Soraya from Arrowhead Park Early College High School, hear from student and community representatives, enjoy a performance by the Mayfield High School Jazzers, and receive updates from Superintendent Ignacio Ruiz.
The Board will also consider important policy, budget, property, Head Start, and student wellness/recess items.

Due to inclement weather in the area, Las Cruces Public Schools implemented its lightning safety protocol this afternoon, which required students and staff to shelter in place until conditions were safe. (A copy of the lightning protocol in Spanish is linked here.)
All elementary students have now been dismissed for the day. As a result of the weather delay, middle and high school bus transportation will be delayed this afternoon.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
This annual event is a great opportunity to celebrate walking to school and highlight the importance of safe, active transportation for our students.

The Challenger Learning Center of Las Cruces is giving students the chance to become astronauts, scientists, and engineers!
Students are simulating NASA’s Artemis Program, working together to accomplish an exciting mission: landing Artemis III on the Moon!
Through hands-on teamwork, problem-solving, and STEM exploration, students are getting a glimpse of what it takes to reach the Moon and beyond!

Las Cruces Public Schools, in partnership with Roadrunner Food Bank, will host a food distribution on Thursday, Sept. 3, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until supplies last.
• Location: LCPS Family Support Center, 505 S. Main St., Suite 249, Las Cruces, NM
• Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 75 families.
• The line often forms early, so please plan to arrive ahead of time.
• This is a drive-thru distribution. Families are asked to remain in their vehicles.
Please share this reminder with families who may benefit from this resource.

Policy: A second reading of Policy BG regarding policy adoption, revision and review.
Legislative priorities: Proposed NMSBA 2027 legislative resolutions focused on academic achievement and school climate and safety.
University partnerships: Proposed agreements with Western Governors University and the University of the Southwest.
Capital projects: A capital outlay grant agreement and the closeout of the Desert Hills Elementary School project.
Board appointment: Appointment of a Board member to the DACC Advisory Board.
Early childhood: The annual report on Early Childhood Programs.
6–12 Academies: An update on the district’s 6–12 Academy.
Connection Center: An update on the LCPS Connection Center, with a focus on academic achievement and school climate and safety.

The Children’s Reading Alliance is excited to be part of the Southern New Mexico Book Festival on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Doña Ana Community College – East Mesa.
This is a free event and a wonderful opportunity for families throughout Southern New Mexico to come together and celebrate the joy of books, reading, and literacy.
Be sure to visit the Children’s Room, where the Children’s Reading Alliance will be leading engaging activities for children, distributing free books, and celebrating the authors and stories that help inspire a lifelong love of reading.

The Doña Ana County Fair is just the beginning!
For many FFA students, months of hard work, dedication and preparation come together at the fair, but earning top honors is only the start of a busy competition season.
From the New Mexico State Fair in September to the El Paso County Fair and Southern New Mexico State Fair, these students will continue showcasing their skills, knowledge and award-winning animals. For many, the journey will ultimately lead to state and national competitions, where they represent their schools and Southern New Mexico on an even bigger stage.
